Shawmut Design and Construction’s Executive Vice President and COO Les Hiscoe and Project Executive Bill Keane recently participated in the ACE Mentor Program Presentations in New York.
The ACE Mentor Program is a non-profit organization that helps prepare high school students for careers in design and construction through mentoring by industry professionals.
Founded in New York in 1995 by a group of leading architects, contractors, engineers and owners, the program has grown to more than 8,000 students and 5,000 mentors in 200 cities.
This year, Hiscoe and Keane, along with professionals from Conant Architects, Time Inc., Jaros, and Baum & Bolles, guided a group of 15 New York students, providing direction on the business of construction from inception to completion, including permitting, pricing and estimating, timelines, budgeting and staffing.
On May 13, each group of students presented their final project at the ACE Final Presentation event. The group of students guided by Shawmut executives designed a green high-rise building, presenting sketches, plans and a full model.
“These young minds are the future of our industry and programs like ACE provide them with the encouragement and knowledge they need to continue to grow in our business,” said Hiscoe. “I am so excited and proud to be a part of this.”
