San Francisco-based Winston recently enlisted students of the Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT) to design a sculptural mural for its New York office.
Unveiled on March 7, the 4-ft. sculptural mural, titled “Free-Flow Words of Inspiration,” was designed by students Luis Colon, Kaiyi Xu and Mina Nakajima-Wu under the guidance of FIT professor Reginald Rogers, and was produced by FLEETWOOD.
The winning design was hand-selected by a panel of judges from Winston, including CEO and Founder Jan Croatt. “I am proud and honored to support the creative efforts of FIT students Luis, Kaiyi and Mina,” Croatt said. “Seeing their design and inspiration of a sculpture come to life in our New York Office is inspiring to our employees and our clients.”
Winston mentored the students through the step-by-step design process from conception to production, advising on budgets, timelines and value engineering.
“This fascinating and unique project is a great illustration of the collaboration between industry and academia in the development of professional processes and implementation management,” said Craig Berger, associate chair of visual presentation and exhibition design at FIT. “Hopefully, this project can serve as a model for collaborative approaches in the future."
