Whole Foods Eyes Larger Stores, Acquisitions
May 10, 2013
Austin, Texas-based Whole Foods Market Inc. is considering opening larger stores in the future, according to Supermarket News. For the past few years, the company has been focusing on stores ranging from 30,000 sq. ft. to 35,000 sq. ft. as it entered smaller markets. Now, looking at the success of some of its larger stores that opened between 2007 and 2009, Whole Foods is considering shifting back up to a range of 35,000 sq. ft. to 45,000 sq. ft. in certain markets. The company also wants to continue to acquire smaller stores, as it did when it purchased six Johnnies Foodmaster locations in the Boston area last year.
