Walmart to Expand Small-Format Store Concepts
March 06, 2013
Bentonville, Ark.-based Wal-Mart Stores Inc. will open about 115 small-format stores this year, according to The Wall Street Journal. The company’s smaller stores, which include its Neighborhood Market and Express concepts, span about 60,000 sq. ft. or less. A growing part of Walmart’s strategy, the planned openings will account for about 40 percent of the total number of new stores planned for 2013, but the majority of the company’s store portfolio is still accounted for by its supercenters and larger stores.
