Tommy Bahama to Open First Global Flagship in New York

 Seattle-based Tommy Bahama, a division of Tommy Bahama Group Inc. (a wholly owned subsidiary of Oxford Industries Inc.), will unveil its first global flagship store in New York on Nov. 17. At 5,000 sq. ft., the 551 Fifth Ave. store is the largest retail location for the island-inspired lifestyle brand to date. The store offers an extensive collection of men's and women's apparel, swimwear, footwear, accessories and home decor, as well as the 1,300-sq.-ft. Marlin Bar and a 6,700-sq.-ft. Tommy Bahama Restaurant and Bar, located on the second floor. The restaurant will open in early December, a slight delay due to the after-effects of Hurricane Sandy.

"We are excited to open our first New York City location on Fifth Avenue, one of the most prestigious shopping avenues in the world," said Terry Pillow, CEO of Tommy Bahama. "This launch is especially significant as we celebrate 20 years in business and seek new ways to elevate our brand both in the U.S. and internationally."

Designed by Michael Neumann Architecture LLC, the store design "emulates an environment evocative of the brand—light, airy and relaxed—bringing to life the relaxed surroundings of a resort coupled with the sophistication and worldliness found in Manhattan." The building facade features louvered screens created from reclaimed wood from the Coney Island Boardwalk, while the interior boasts Cuenca limestone floor tiles, white screens that are perforated to create images of palm trees, a spiral staircase and an oak-plank ceiling weathered like the decking of a dock.
