Starbucks Continues Japanese Expansion
May 13, 2013
Seattle-based Starbucks Corp. is on track to open its 1,000th store in Japan this summer. Since the opening of its first store in Ginza, Tokyo, in August 1996, Starbucks has expanded across 46 prefectures in Japan, which was its first international market outside of North America. Most recently, the company opened a Starbucks Meguro store in Tokyo. The store takes queues from traditional tea houses and features locally relevant design solutions, as well as modern craftsmanship and translucent elements that allow consistent interactivity between customers and partners. Parts of a green garden and local contemporary art also are featured in the store.
