L.L. Bean to Open Second Chicago Area Store
May 05, 2008
Freeport, Maine-based outdoor gear and apparel outfitter L.L. Bean announced that it will open a second store in the Chicago area. The new store will be located at the Old Orchard Shopping Center in Skokie, Ill. In 2008, L.L. Bean will also open a store in the Chicago area at the Arboretum of South Barrington, as well as a new store in Pittsburgh. Planning is currently underway for the new 30,000-sq.-ft. Old Orchard store, which will be built to the U.S. Green Building Council's LEED standards. The Old Orchard store will be L.L. Bean's ninth green store, which will incorporate creative use of recycled and reclaimed materials, as well as state-of-the-art energy-efficient heating, cooling and lighting systems. L.L. Bean made the decision to expand its retail presence into these areas as part of its broader retail expansion strategy. The retailer has plans to operate 32 stores by 2012.
