Columbia to Enter Chicago Market
July 16, 2008
Portland, Ore.-based Columbia Sportswear Co. has signed a lease with London-based Grosvenor Group Ltd. for a new Columbia-branded store to be located at 830 N. Michigan Ave. in Chicago. The new store is scheduled to open in spring 2009. "We're very excited about the prospect of locating a Columbia store on Chicago's Michigan Avenue," said Tim Boyle, president and CEO of Columbia. "The 'Magnificent Mile' is one of the most famous shopping streets in the United States and features many of the most powerful brands in the world." Columbia is planning to build a network of Columbia-branded stores during the next few years and previously announced plans to enter the Seattle market in late 2008. Currently, the retailer operates one Columbia store in Portland.
