Consumer Reports Releases January Consumer Reports Index
January 17, 2010
Yonkers, N.Y.-based Consumer Reports National Research Center released its January Consumer Reports Index, showing an increase in its Consumer Reports Sentiment Index, from 44.1 compared with 41.8 in December 2009. The rise was attributed to a decrease in the number of financial difficulties consumers faced via its Trouble Tracker Index, which declined to 58.2, its lowest level in the past five months. In addition, consumer purchasing increased approximately 26 percent in December, while the Past 30-Day Retail Index for January increased to 14.1 from 11.2 in December. Since October, this index has risen 57 percent, specifically in the areas of personal electronics, major home electronics and home appliances. The Consumer Reports Index includes 1,275 interviews, and took place from January 7, 2010 to January 10, 2010.
