Sunflower Farmers Market to Open in Plano, Texas

Boulder, Colo.-based Sunflower Farmers Market announced plans to open a new store in Plano, Texas, located at Preston and West Parker roads, according to the Dallas News. Currently, the Plano store is under construction, and will feature a mix of organic and nonorganic produce, as well as 800 private-label grocery items. According to the company, it hopes to open five to six stores in the Dallas area over the next 18 months, in addition to opening new stores in Austin, Texas. In January 2008, Sunflower announced $30 million in new venture capital, making it possible to expand in Utah and Texas. Mike Gilliland, CEO, started Sunflower in 2002, after founding Wild Oats Markets in 1984. Sunflower Farmers Markets operates 14 stores in Arizona, Colorado, Nevada and New Mexico.
