Office Depot Reports 1Q Results

Delray Beach, Fla.-based Office Depot Inc. reported net earnings of $69 million for the first quarter ending March 29, 2008, compared with $154 million for the same time period last year. Total sales decreased 3 percent to $4 billion, versus $4.09 billion; while North American Retail sales dropped 7 percent to $1.7 billion. Comparable-store sales decreased 9 percent and international sales rose 6 percent. The company opened 45 new stores and relocated one store for the quarter. Office Depot operates 1,670 stores worldwide.
