Tavern on the Green to Open in San Francisco
May 09, 2008
Tavern on the Green, one of the highest-grossing independently owned restaurants in the United States, announced that it will open a new restaurant in San Francisco. Tavern on the Green has annual revenues approaching $40 million and hosts more than 600,000 visitors each year in New York. While Tavern on the Green sits on New York's Central Park, Tavern on the Green San Francisco will be situated overlooking the Yerba Buena Gardens in the center of San Francisco's main business and hospitality district. Tavern on the Green San Francisco will measure about 30,000 sq. ft. of interior space plus a 13,000-sq.-ft. outdoor terrace overlooking the park. It will feature private dining, an event space and the return of the historic Maxwell's Plum Bar. The location is adjacent to Westfield San Francisco Centre, Moscone Convention Center and notable museums. The restaurant will be on the top floor of Metreon, co-owned by the Westfield Group and Forest City Commercial Group, as one of the anchors of the retail, restaurant and entertainment facility. While an executive chef for Tavern on the Green San Francisco has yet to be officially determined, the restaurant will feature cuisine with local, fresh California ingredients and an extensive wine list that draws from the area's vineyards.
