New Aldi Prototype Store Uses Green Solutions
December 04, 2008
Batavia, Ill.-based Aldi Inc. recently announced a new environmentally friendly supermarket in East Syracuse, N.Y., which uses a green refrigeration solution. The 17,500-sq.-ft store is considered an Aldi Generation 1 building, which incorporates many energy and cost savings and serves as a prototype for future stores. The Protocol refrigeration system, manufactured by Missouri-based Hussmann Corp., saves the store energy and allows for easy system expansion, in addition to reducing the store's refrigerant charge and leak rates by up to 80 percent. Other green products at the store include multi-deck display cases with high-performance coils, energy-efficient fan motors and integrated night curtains to save refrigeration energy when the store is closed.
