Blockbuster Tests New Nevada Store
December 04, 2008
Dallas-based Blockbuster Inc. chose Reno, Nev., as the test market for a store concept that combines video rentals with sales of other home-entertainment products, according to The Cincinnati Enquirer. To reach the rental section, customers must pass a game center that includes an array of Wii and Xbox accessories, high-definition TVs and mobile media devices, interactive games ready for play in leather chairs, and expanded snack racks with a cafe kiosk offering food and drinks. The key to the concept is convenience, selling not just the movie or video game but the means to watch it, said Blockbuster CEO Jim Keyes. The changes have been in the works for some time, with limited testing already in New York and Dallas, he added.
