NRF, RILA Abandon Plan to Merge
June 26, 2009
The National Retail Federation (NRF) and the Retail Industry Leaders Association (RILA) have decided to drop their plans to merge, according to WashingtonPost.com. NRF and RILA were originally set to introduce the merger proposal to board members this summer, but after assessing each group’s operations and objectives, both organizations have opted not to proceed. “NRF and RILA will devote all resources to continuing the work they are each doing to address the serious issues that America's consumers and retailers are facing in today's economic environment,” the trade groups said in a joint statement. NRF represents 2,500 national chains, mom-and-pop shops, restaurants and online retailers. RILA represents about 200 retail suppliers and service providers, and 60 mass chains.
