Best Buy to Open 40 Mobile Phone Stores
June 26, 2009
Richfield, Minn.-based consumer electronics retailer Best Buy Co. Inc. will open 40 freestanding mobile phone stores this year, hoping to capture 15 percent of the U.S. mobile phone market, reports The Wall Street Journal. According to Brian Dunn, the company’s new CEO, mobile phones are a key element of Best Buy’s sales campaign to emphasize products that focus on “connectivity.” Dunn also said that since customers have enjoyed the new Best Buy Mobile displays, the company may be able to multiply its share of the mobile phone market. Originally, company executives aimed to reach 10 percent of the U.S. market. Currently, Best Buy has about 3 percent, but is facing competition from Wal-Mart Stores Inc. and Amazon.com.
