Dress Barn Acquires Tween Brands for $157 Million
June 26, 2009
Suffern, N.Y.-based women’s apparel retailer The Dress Barn Inc. has decided to purchase New Albany, Ohio-based Tween Brands Inc. for approximately $157 million, according to Reuters.com. “The Justice brand is an excellent complement to our existing businesses, as it diversifies us into a new and attractive demographic,” said David Jaffe, CEO of Dress Barn. Following the sale, Dress Barn will be able to connect with the tween market through Tween Brands’ Justice line, which targets girls ages 7 to 14. Dress Barn expects the deal to yield neutral earnings in the first year but to profit subsequently. Tween Brands will continue to operate separately under its own management team after the purchase.
