Best Buy to Make Major Store Renovations
June 17, 2009
Richfield, Minn.-based Best Buy Co. Inc. plans to bring major changes to its store model in order to highlight its services and to test the success of new product departments, reports Twice.com. Gary Balter, retail analyst at Credit Suisse, said that Best Buy will relocate its Geek Squad kiosks to the center of the floor, surrounding them with illustrations of product capabilities. The new store layout might feature new product categories as well, such as exercise equipment, musical instruments and used videos. Balter also said that Best Buy is underscoring its service- and subscription-based revenue through its store design renovations. “We have become a service business that has retail stores, not a retailer that provides service,” Balter said, quoting Bob Willett, CEO of Best Buy International.
