February 09, 2010

Indianapolis-based consumer electronics and home appliances retailer hhgregg Inc. has announced plans to open 40 to 45 stores in the Philadelphia, Baltimore and Washington, D.C., areas, according to The Wall Street Journal. The new store openings in the coming months are part of a broader plan by the 127-store retailer to expand to 600 stores this decade. hhgregg, which operates stores primarily in the Midwest and Southeast, is looking to expand its markets on a more national level. For the fiscal third quarter, the company's net sales improved 20.3 percent to $500.5 million from $416.1 million.
