The retail industry gained 42,100 jobs in January, with increases primarily in department stores, grocery and clothing retailers. In the overall job market, wages and hours worked increased and companies added more than 50,000 temporary workers throughout January. In addition, the economy expanded at a 5.7 percent pace the last three months of 2009, and data indicates that increases will continue throughout 2010.
