RILA Releases January Labor Report
February 07, 2010

Arlington, Va.-based Retail Industry Leaders Association (RILA) released a report by the U.S. Department of Labor indicating the loss of 22,000 jobs in January, while the unemployment rate declined to 9.7 percent. The retail industry gained 42,100 jobs in January, with increases primarily in department stores, grocery and clothing retailers. In the overall job market, wages and hours worked increased and companies added more than 50,000 temporary workers throughout January. In addition, the economy expanded at a 5.7 percent pace the last three months of 2009, and data indicates that increases will continue throughout 2010. RILA is comprised of more than 200 retailers, product manufacturers and service suppliers worldwide.
