Saks Fifth Avenue to Close Store in Fort Lauderdale, Fla.
May 13, 2008

Birmingham, Ala.-based Saks Inc. announced plans to close its 73,000-sq.-ft. Saks Fifth Avenue store in the Galleria Mall in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. The store, a leased location, is expected to close on July 20, 2008. The company operates 10 other Saks Fifth Avenue stores in Florida, and will continue to serve customers on the Eastern coast of Florida in its Boca Raton, Miami, Bal Harbour, Palm Beach, and newly renovated and expanded Palm Beach Gardens locations. All affected associates--about 60--either will be offered transfer opportunities or will receive severance packages. Saks currently operates 54 Saks Fifth Avenue stores, 48 Saks Off 5th stores and Saks.com. The company also operates Club Libby Lu specialty stores.
