Hundreds of light guides are carved into a transparent block of acrylic polymer to create each Scintilla tile. Together, these fiberoptic elements shimmer and sparkle in response to moving light and shadow. Scintilla, which also picks up and disperses nearby colors, is available in five standard colors. It comes in two tile thicknesses and various sizes, and with either a clear or matte surface finish. Clear, 1-in.-thick tiles have double-wide acrylic strips and, when used in larger installations, are more reactive than other available colors. Detroit. (313) 872-6314; www.sensitile.com.
